A Holiday Punch

Daniel Webster’s Punch – variation from the Steward & Barkeep’s Manual, 1869
-4 Cups Earl Grey Tea (steeped 10 minutes)
-12oz. Oleo Saccharum: Peels of 6 lemons (peeled in long strips), 1.5 cups sugar. Muddle lemon peel and sugar until clumpy and shiny, press into air-tight ziplock and leave overnight at room temperature.
-8oz. fresh lemon juice
-750ml Oloroso Sherry (dry, nutty, dark amber in colour)
-750ml Black Jamaican Rum
-750ml Prosecco or dry Champagne, chilled
Make the tea. Once steeped, add Oleo Saccharum and stir until sugar is completely dissolved. Strain out lemon peel or remove with slotted spoon. Add lemon juice, sherry, rum, and wine. Chill for 12-24 hours. To serve, add mixture to punch bowl and add chilled Prosecco. Garnish with orange wheel and star-anise.

This is a 18-point chart showing Toronto buildings of architectural, cultural, or social importance, all of which were bulldozed or burned out of existence between 1904 and 2017. Illustrated and silkscreen printed by Montreal artist Raymond Biesinger. This print was also featured in the Toronto Life Holiday Gift Guide this year, and is fast turning into a customer holiday favourite.
