What I love about Cabbagetown is the beauty of its historic architecture and the strong sense of community. It truly feels like a small town within the big city, and I especially love that I can walk to the nearby retail strip and get virtually everything I need. I do my banking, visit the dry cleaner, drug store, restaurants and retail all within a 5 minute walk. I really feel it is one of the last true ‘Main Streets’ in the city.

I have lived in Cabbagetown for 17 years with my husband and business partner Asa Weinstein. I joined him here after we got together because I was immediately smitten by the architecture, local community feel and access to anything and everything from shops, to restaurants, transit and parks. What I soon discovered was that I already had an incredible connection to Cabbagetown. When I was a kid, we would drive down the DVP and we’d pass Riverdale Farm and the big hill and my mom would tell me that my grandfather used to toboggan down that hill. Like clockwork, she’d always point it out. The first time my grandfather came to our home, he told us that he had grown up on Carlton across from the park, when he first came to Canada from Denmark. He was a stock boy at the Westons Grocery, which is now the No Frills. It was indeed a full circle moment for our family.
We joke rather seriously about the fact that we can never leave Cabbagetown. It allows us a lifestyle that we can’t imagine having anywhere else. It’s a small town in the heart of a big city. It’s home.

The creative community at TOM loves Cabbagetown for its diversity, its architectural beauty and its incredible Main Street amenities. Supporting local businesses is easy when there are so many useful resources; many of them specifically design-related. Trusted, go-to suppliers like Eclectisaurus, Spruce, Blooming, Kendall and Company, Labour of Love and the LCBO keep our creative endeavours current while we enjoy the convenience of having them close by. (Yup, you read that last one on our list right… it’s design-related).

Imagine living in a charming, rural hamlet with every convenience just around the corner. That’s Cabbagetown – with heritage homes rich in character, the magical Riverdale Farm and extensive bike trails. I love how creative and diverse the community is...they are the best neighbours. It's truly a unique oasis in the middle of Toronto.

Having been a Cabbagetown resident for almost 20 years, I am deeply entrenched in this neighborhood and can't imagine living anywhere else in our great city. Having watched the area evolve and change throughout the years, I’m immensely proud to be part of this community. Admittedly, one of my favorite weekends of the year is the Cabbagetown Festival, when I have the opportunity to meet both neighbors and visitors on the street, and most importantly to hock my wares at my yearly annual yard sale! I am thrilled to take part in this initiative to be able to bring some festivity to the Parliament Street strip, and hopefully bring some joy to passersby this holiday season.

We have been through so much since opening in 2013, from the fire and now the pandemic and I am so grateful for the Cabbagetown Community and how they rally around local businesses and friends. It's truly inspiring and heart-warming. We would not be here without Cabbagetown and we will keep working hard for you!
