Notice: Hydro Construction on Gerrard, Sept-Feb

Toronto Hydro will be improving the electricity system in Regent Park. The boundaries for the project include Gerrard Street East (North), River Street (East), Oak Street (South), and Parliament Street (West). We expect the work to begin September 2024 and be complete in February 2025.

Attached is the notification. Please see below for details on the impact on the construction.

What will be the impact on businesses?

Minimal impact on businesses in the area. The civil construction will take place on Dreamers Way and the rest of the work is the installation of cable along Gerrard Street East, which will require crews to access the existing cable chambers along the road to perform the work.

Which lanes, if any, will be closed/inaccessible?

Short duration single lane closures along Gerrard Street East to install the cable. Staggered single lane closures to complete the installations. Work completed 1 chamber at a time.

Will the sidewalk access be maintained?

Sidewalk access will be maintained except on Dreamers Way for the road crossing where the work will be staggered from 1 side of the road to the other. Pedestrian/vehicular traffic will be controlled with signage and the on-site crew. This work will take roughly 3 days with the sidewalk closures on each side taking about 1-2 days.

Will there be parking removed, and if so, where and for how long?

Short duration (4 hours to 1 day depending on water and chamber condition) parking of construction vehicles to access the chambers along Gerrard Street East. Cones will be placed ahead of time.
