Proof of BIA membership will be required to vote. Please bring photo ID and either a business card, utility bill showing business/tenant name and address, or your City of Toronto property tax bill.

Nominations for Directors to the Board of Management

Governed under Chapter 19 of the City of Toronto Municipal Code and The Cabbagetown BIA by-laws, The Cabbagetown BIA Board of Management comprises up to twelve (12) directors and one (1) City Councillor. Every four (4) years, coinciding with the Municipal elections, the BIA puts out a Call for Expression of Interest for representation as a Director on the Board to fill vacancies at its next Annual General Meeting (AGM). All directors are public-appointed officials. The term of office is for four (4) years.

At the AGM on November 30, 2022, the BIA will elect a new board from the pool of nominees that have come forward. The names of the elected directors will then be shared with the City of Toronto’s BIA Office for approval and appointment by City Council. The new board will take office in 2023.

The following individuals have expressed interest in joining the BIA for the 2023-2026 term. For new members interested in joining the Board of Management in the new year, the Board will accept Expression of Interest forms on a rolling basis for review at a meeting within three (3) months of submission, starting 2023.

Patty Junior - The Epicure Shop: Patty has been a staple in the Cabbagetown community since the opening  of her gourmet food store, The Epicure Shop, in 1980. For over 25 years, she has sat on the BIA board and has watched the Cabbagetown area grow and change into a highly diverse and unique place to live, while  sustaining a small town vibe in the big city. She has experience as Board Secretary and has been an active member on the Festival Committee.

Tony Lafazanis - Tony Lafazanis Professional Corporation: Tony has been a Cabbagetown resident since 1986 and is the father of 2 teenage children. In 2013 Tony moved his law office from downtown Toronto right into the heart of Cabbagetown, where he specializes in personal injury. He brings his experience in business and his interest as a resident to the BIA as the current Vice-Chairperson. Tony strives to raise the bar for businesses in the area, to allow the business community to reach its potential, and to make our “main street” the hub for the local area residents and an attractive choice for tourists.

Daniel Megly - Property Owner of 244, 246, 248, 250: Daniel is the previous co-owner of Daniel et Daniel, one of Toronto’s most popular event creation and catering companies, and a commercial property owner in The Cabbagetown BIA. As a current BIA board member, Daniel brought his strong business background to special projects and committees, such as the Festival Committee, with the goal of making it an event to benefit the entire area and to be accessible to everyone. He wants to support local businesses and beautify the area to make Cabbagetown more merchant-friendly.

Gerald Michaud - HomeLife/Realty One Ltd.: Gerald Michaud is a real estate broker of record who prioritizes humour, warmth, accountability, and honesty to create an enjoyable professional environment. With is background in business and arts, he hopes to to contribute his insights to beautifying the Cabbagetown public realm. He ultimately wants to make Cabbagetown a destination.

Bill Renieris - Home Hardware: Bill practically grew up in Cabbagetown as his father owned the local Home Hardware, which he eventually took over and continues to operate with the same small-town charm. Bill is also a property owner of the adjacent buildings in the area; he values both commercial and residential tenants. As the current Chairperson of the BIA, Bill is interested in promoting façade improvements, security/safety in the area, and Cabbagetown’s overall development and growth. From streetscape updates to attracting new businesses to the area, Bill is interested in helping to keep Cabbagetown a competitive and desirable area to visit, shop, and live in.

David Stratton - Daniel et Daniel Catering & Events: David believes that Cabbagetown is a beautifully diverse and unique neighbourhood in the city. However, he also believes that the community needs support in renewing infrastructure and managing through the inevitable disruptions that go along with that. To contribute to the BIA’s succes, he has developed skills around team building and leadership from a young age through social activities, sport, and business. He believes that these skills such as listening to people, solving problems, working with teams, and driving deliverables to targets are easily transferable to Board work. He wants to continue helping to create an environment that supports the success of local businesses and the enjoyment of the area by local residents and visitors.

Tania Waldock - House on Parliament: Tania owns and operates one of Cabbagetown’s notable restaurants, The House On Parliament, fondly referred to as “The HOP.” Over the years, Tania has grown her business with her friendly service, a move in location, and a large renovation. As a restaurateur and current Board Members, she understands the many challenges faced by Cabbagetown eateries while supporting all types of businesses. Tania sat on the Cabbagetown Festival Committee and hopes the Festival will attract new people to the area who will become return customers. She has a strong desire to create an engaging and safe area to live, work, and play.
